The death of Abdelfattah El-Sisi, Egypt's president, has been the subject of bogus claims among social media users and news websites. On April 29, many posts falsely claimed the death of Abdelfattah El-Sisi.

On Friday, April 29, 2022, CBC and Extra News websites in Egypt announced that their accounts on the “Nabd app” had been hacked and fake news about the death of Egyptian President Abdelfattah El-Sisi was published. The two hacked websites circulated photos on the “Nabd app,” and published breaking news: “The Death of President Abdelfattah El-Sisi.”

The official Facebook page of Aljazeera-Egypt also posted that CBC and Extra News websites have announced that their accounts have been hacked on the “Nabd app” and have published false news about the death of the President Abdelfattah El-Sisi.

Misbar investigated the news regarding the death of Egypt's President and discovered that no reliable sources had published information about his death.

Many social media users and news websites reported that the Egyptian authorities on Friday closed the “Nabd app” after it published news about the death of Egypt's President Abdelfattah El-Sisi. The announcement of the closure of the app coincided with the spread of a screenshot said to be from the app and included false news of the death of Egyptian President Abdelfattah El-Sisi.

CBS's Twitter account posted a statement explaining that its channel's account on the “Nabd app” was closed “after unknown hackers hacked it and spread false news through it.” The channel attached a photo along with the statement, in which it said, “‘The Nabd app’ was hacked by unknown hackers to publish fake news on it, and the relevant authorities are dealing with the breach and taking action against the website.”
