Mark Cuban, the billionaire tech entrepreneur and investor, is entertained by the potential of AI chatbots like the Microsoft-backed ChatGPT and Google's Bard. However, he is not quite ready to trust them just yet.

As artificial intelligence platforms continue to evolve and spread, Cuban and others believe that online misinformation is going to get worse.

Currently, misinformation tends to spread through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. However, with ChatGPT and other similar bots, the situation might get even worse.

Cuban warns that “Once these things start taking on a life of their own ... it will be difficult for us to define why and how the machine makes the decisions it makes, and who controls the machine.”

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a large-scale, generative language model created by OpenAI. It is trained on a vast amount of data, including books, articles, and websites, making it capable of generating human-like text in response to input.

Nevertheless, ChatGPT is not infallible. At times, it may provide incorrect answers or provide incoherent responses. There is a growing trend on social media where people post the simplistic errors made by ChatGPT.

Common ChatGPT Errors

Some of the most prevalent ChatGPT errors include:

  1. Incorrect math solutions: ChatGPT may occasionally provide incorrect solutions to mathematical problems.
  2. Contradictory responses: ChatGPT may provide contradictory responses when repeatedly asked the same question.
  3. Fabricated facts: ChatGPT may generate responses that contain false or misleading information.
  4. Incoherent responses: ChatGPT may produce responses that are grammatically incorrect, incoherent.

The development of AI is still in its infancy stages, as evidenced by a recent blunder by Google's ai chatbot, Bard. During one of the first ads for their AI platform, Bard, incorrectly answered a question about NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. This mistake caused Alphabet's shares to drop by over 9%. Several Google employees blamed CEO Sundar Pichai for the rushed and botched release.

The Future of AI Technology

While Microsoft acknowledges that the technology behind ChatGPT is not yet perfect, the company still plans to incorporate it into an upcoming version of its search engine, Bing. "Bing will sometimes misrepresent the information it finds, and you may see responses that sound convincing but are incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate," the company's recently updated FAQ page says.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates thinks platforms like ChatGPT represent a growing technological movement that will revolutionize healthcare and education. "Today, they require too much computation, they're not always accurate. But even this week, you'll have announcements from Microsoft and Google, where they're competing to lead in this space," Gates said. "The progress over the next couple of years to make these things even better will be profound."
