The Claim

In an interview, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan insisted his children would only follow Islam, even though his wife and ex are Hindu.

Emerging story

On August 17, 2020, actor Kangana Ranaut shared an interview published in Tanqeed in 2012. She accused Aamir Khan of being intolerant. Her post soon went viral, often retweeted with Islamophobic comments and calls to boycott Aamir Khan movies.

Misbar’s Analysis

Khan ostensibly said in the interview that even though his wife, Kiran Rao, and ex, Reena Dutta, are Hindu, his children will only follow Islam.

However, Misbar’s investigation found that the interview is fake. Khan’s production team said in a statement that the interview never took place.

Ranaut’s tweet followed a meeting between Khan and Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan, for which he received widespread criticism.
