The Claim

An episode of The Simpsons that aired years ago featured an image of a supposedly dead Donald Trump lying in a coffin.

Emerging story

After President Donald Trump announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19, a Facebook post began circulating across social media that claimed that The Simpsons had featured Trump lying in a coffin.

Users on social media continued to push this claim.

Misbar’s Analysis

The Misbar team has determined that this claim is false. The image of President Trump lying in a coffin in a Simpsons-style animation started circulating the internet in February 2017, with text reading: “The Simpsons have shown impressive ability to predict the future, we have witnessed horrifying events that have come true and that without doubt have passed into history, as in the case of the fall of the twin towers, the emergence of Ebola, video calls, the triumph of Donald Trump as President of the United States and this, just to mention a few; however, recently The Simpsons have brought to light a new prediction that could undoubtedly mark the world and Is the death of the current president.”

While The Simpsons has been known to ostensibly predict the future from fans across the globe, former writer Bill Oakley says that the show gets too much credit for predicting the future and said he doesn’t like the show being used for these types of purposes.

According to Distractify, the image circulating the internet is not actually from The Simpsons. While the creator of the image is unknown, the site says that the image currently being circulated came from a thread in a 4chan forum.
