The Claim

The Israeli military said "dozens of rioters" hurled rocks at Israeli soldiers, who responded with "riot dispersal means." It denied that its forces used live ammunition."

Emerging story

In December 2020, a Palestinian teen had been reported killed during a protest in the West Bank.
The Israeli forces claimed it that ‘Rioters attempted to roll boulders and burning tires from ridges above the Allon road, endangering the lives of civilians on the route," she said. "Security forces prevented the rioters from blocking the road and responded with riot dispersal means."
The Israeli forces denied they used live fire.

Misbar’s Analysis

According to field investigations by Defense for Children International Palestine (DCIP), Ayman Saleh Nasser, 15, was shot with live ammunition in the abdomen while observing clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian youth from the village of Al-Mughayyir, located northeast of the central West Bank city of Ramallah.

Nickolay Mladenov, the UN Middle East peace envoy, called on Israel to “swiftly and independently investigate this shocking and unacceptable incident.”
As Israel denies using live ammunition, all the evidence in our investigation proofs the opposite.

While Israel claims that rubber-coated bullets, sponge-tipped rounds, and tear gas are also non-lethal, they have indeed killed and severely injured many Palestinians, including children.
The European Union’s representative office in the occupied West Bank also declared that this “shocking incident must be swiftly and fully investigated by the Israeli authorities in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

According to the Palestinian Red Cross, Ali Abu Aliya was hit by live fire in the stomach and was taken in critical condition to a hospital in Ramallah for surgery. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed his death hours later.
