The Claim

A picture showing Joe Biden wearing an orthopedic boot on the opposite foot of the one he fractured proves that he did not injure himself.

Emerging story

After suffering a hairline fracture in his right foot while playing with his dog, president-elect Joe Biden was forced to wear an orthopedic boot to allow it to heal. In December 2020, social media users began to circulate rumors that Biden had put the boot on the wrong foot, “proving” that the injury was not real.

Users across social media continued to push this claim.

Misbar’s Analysis

The Misbar team has determined that the claim is false. The picture that shows Biden with a boot on his left foot was digitally altered. The original picture was taken in November 2018 and highlighted in a post from the Delaware Humane Society. The Delaware Human Society also posted a video of Joe Biden adopting his dog, Major.

The doctored image, shows Biden wearing a boot on his left foot and wearing a surgical mask to give the impression that the picture was taken during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The image that shows Biden wearing the boot on his right foot is an authentic photo and taken since the president-elect fractured his foot.
Since the first picture, which highlights Biden wearing a boot on his left foot, is from 2018 and was doctored to show both a boot and a surgical mask, but the photo from 2020 is authentic and shows the boot on the foot that he actually fractured, his right foot, we rate the claim that Biden is wearing the boot on the wrong foot, proving that he did not injure himself, as false.
