When state electors in the U.S. formalized the results of the 2020 election by casting their ballots for the electoral college, conservative personality Antoni Sabato Jr. posted a message on his Twitter page which claimed that Nevada state GOP electors cast their ballots for President Trump, instead of president-elect Biden, who won the state by over 30,000 votes.
Users across social media continued to push this claim.

Misbar’s Analysis
The Misbar team has determined that the claim is false. Sabato Jr. is mentioning an unofficial ceremony held by individuals who were pretending to be the state’s electors, which was broadcast by the Right Side Broadcasting Network.
This was not meant as satire. Those in the video enacted a ceremony; however, they did so without any official authority to do so. According to the Nevada Secretary of State: “Nevada’s political parties each select six electors who will cast Nevada’s Electoral College votes if their party’s candidate wins. After the presidential candidate who has the most votes in Nevada is declared the state’s winner, that candidate’s electors will travel to Carson City in December to cast votes for their candidate.”
Biden beat Trump in Nevada with 703,486 votes versus Trump who received 669,690. According to the state’s law, the electors were chosen by the Democratic party who were then legally required to cast their ballots for Biden. A video of them casting their legal votes for Biden was shown on PBS.
Since the claim that GOP electors cast their votes for Trump has no legal merit, we rate the claim that Nevada awarded their six electoral votes to President Trump as false.
