Satire: Kamala Harris Comments on Christmas

The Claim

Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris said Christmas should not be a federal holiday.

Emerging story

On the days leading up to Christmas 2020, social media users shared a quote allegedly showing that Harris wants to remove Christmas as a federal holiday. Many shared their disgust at the idea.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that the claim originated from the site America’s Last Line of Defense, which we have discussed before. The site’s banner reads “satire for your confirmation bias,” so anyone who read the article should have realized that it is satire.

If anything, Harris has requested that more days be recognized as federal holidays. She has been an advocate for making Juneteenth, the day signifying the federal order to free slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865, a federal holiday. She has also discussed her desire to make Election Day a federal holiday.

Further, Harris has publicly celebrated Christmas for the past several years.
