The Claim

The CEO of Pfizer has not taken his own COVID-19 vaccine.

Emerging story

On December 16, 2020, Pfizer’s CEO Albert Bourla was noted stating that he has yet to take his vaccine. Many social media users found this information shocking and were alarmed that the CEO wasn’t taking his own vaccine.

Many claimed that it was quite suspicious that the CEO and his staff wouldn’t take their own vaccine.

Misbar’s Analysis

The FDA has previously permitted the use of the vaccination for emergency use. As such, many individuals have already expressed interest in obtaining the vaccination to support the cause and protect themselves.

However, in an interview with CNBC in December 2020, Pfizer’s CEO Albert Bourla was noted stating that he has not been vaccinated yet. He further stated to reporters that he was “in good health” and “I’m not working on the frontline, so my type it is not recommended to get vaccination now.” The interview is below.

Bourla remarks that this information is true for himself as well as the other executives and that none of them wish to “cut the line.”

Although social media users have inferred that this means he does not support the vaccination, Bourla is also reported having said that he intends to obtain the vaccine at the appropriate time based on factors such as age and occupation.

As such, Misbar finds this claim to be true with the currently available statements and information as of December 21, 2020. As the vaccination is further tested and analyzed, many individuals including CEO Bourla may end up taking the vaccination.
