Alec Baldwin Didn’t Threaten Trump

The Claim

Actor Alec Baldwin said that Trump should be violently murdered.

Emerging story

Alec Baldwin is well known for his anti-Trump statements. Baldwin even impersonated and mocked Trump on Saturday Night Live (which Trump himself has tweeted about). As a result, he’s been scrutinized heavily by Trump supporters and right-wing media. Breitbart has written plenty of articles about him and his tweets.

The latest article is in regard to a recent tweet. Breitbart alleged that he suggested a “violent punishment” involved putting a knee of Trump’s neck to suffocate him. It had since been shared and rewritten.

Misbar’s Analysis

Alec Baldwin did allude to putting a knee of Trump’s neck. However, this is only a small part of a larger tweet. Taken as a whole, it’s pretty clear that Baldwin is comparing the president’s consequences to George Floyd. Baldwin appears to be saying that Trump’s crimes are worse than Floyd’s Before being killing by police, Floyd was unarmed and cuffed by police after trying to pass a counterfeit bill. It is unlikely that Trump will face the same treatment, even if he refuses to concede and must be, as Baldwin puts it, “dragged out” by police. There’s no reason to suspect that Baldwin is advocating for killing the president, unless that specific line is taken out of context, which appears to be the case.
