The Claim

Via Getty is one of the rioters who stormed the Capitol.

Emerging story

Ryan Lizza, Chief Washington Correspondent for Politico and Senior Political Analyst for CNN, posted an image on Twitter with the caption “Via Getty, one of the rioters steals a podium from the Capitol.”

The image received more than 15K retweets, with some users believing the man in the photo is named “Via Getty."

As one Twitter user asks who the man pictured is, another user responds with “It says right there that his name is ‘Via Getty.'"

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found this claim to be fake. The man pictured in the tweet is not named Via Getty.

A little more than 3 hours after his original tweet, Ryan Lizza followed up by saying “To be clear 'via Getty' is not a person. It just means that this photo comes via Getty Images.”

The man pictured is actually Adam Johnson, a 36-year-old man from Parrish, Florida. He smiled and waved as he was caught on camera by Win McNamee of Getty Images while carrying what appeared to be Nancy Pelosi’s lectern as he walked through the US Capitol with other rioters on Wednesday.
