The Claim

Receiving the COVID vaccine can "make you gay."

Emerging story

The claim went viral on social media in mid-January 2021.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar found that this claim was made during an online gathering by Rabbi Daniel Asor to his supporters and followers.

During this gathering, Rabbi Daniel Asor claims that the vaccination for COVID-19 is an effort for key leaders like Bill Gates and the government to “establish a new world order.”

He is further quoted stating that “any vaccine made using an embryonic substrate, and we have evidence of this, causes opposite tendencies. Vaccines are taken from an embryonic substrate, and they did that here, too, so... it can cause opposite tendencies.”

Asor is well-known in his community for starting discussions on controversial topics. He often criticizes the government and health organizations for circulating false data and statistics in order to meet their agenda.

Since this claim, there has been a lot of opposition to his statement within the LGBTQ community. The Havruta organization has already begun to express frustration with the Rabbi’s comments and interest in continuing to build tolerance for LGBTQ individuals within the community.

Similarly, there has also been a lot of humor circulating by celebrities who also identify as LGBTQ. Well-known musician Lil Nas X (@LilNasX) posted the following:

There is no evidence showing that the COVID-19 vaccination can cause individuals to have homosexual tendencies. Without proof, we rate this claim as fake.
