The Claim

The school shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in 2018 was staged and thus did not really happen.

Emerging story

The claim has been around since the shooting itself. It has been espoused by many, but most recently went viral again when Facebook messages from U.S. Representative Marjorie Greene supporting the claim surfaced.

Those directly affected by the shooting – including survivor David Hogg and Fred Guttenberg, father of victim Jaime Guttenberg – spoke out against Greene following the unsurfacing of her posts about the shooting.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that the allegations that the shooting was staged or somehow otherwise faked are, themselves, fake. On February 14, 2018, then-19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, killing 17 and injuring many more.

Those who claim that the shooting did not take place believe that it is a false flag event using crisis actors to push a political agenda. In particular, they focus on the idea that David Hogg, a student survivor-turned-activist, is the son of a retired FBI agent. Some, including notorious conspiracy theorist Alex Jones (who we have previously discussed at Misbar), said this means that the shooting was staged. Jones now says that it was “psychosis” that caused him to make claims about false flag shootings.

Photos, video, survivor testimony, and police records all prove that the shooting took place.

Greene is a vocal supporter of QAnon, whose vast conspiracy theory web we have debunked before.
