The Claim

Kayleigh McEnany has signed on to work for Fox News.

Emerging story

On Twitter, Citizens for Ethics tweeted that Former White House press secretary “Kayleigh McEnany has signed on to work for Fox News, according to disclosures obtained by CREW.”

The Tweet received nearly two thousand retweets, with many users responding negatively, claiming that she is a “Perfect Fox fit.”

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found this claim to be suspicious.

According to their website, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) “targets government officials who sacrifice the common good to special interests and personal gain.” They fight against corruption and dark money with the goal of a more transparent and accountable government.

According to a public financial disclosure termination report obtained by CREW and filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, McEnany has an “Employment agreement with Fox News, starting work in January 2021.”

It appears that McEnany signed the report, confirming its accuracy, on January 12, 2021.

Contradicting this report, a Fox News spokeswoman told the Guardian: “Kayleigh McEnany is not currently an employee or contributor at Fox News.”

According to the USA Today, a source confirmed that Fox News and McEnany had initial conversations after the 2020 election but put them on pause. They also said that “Fox is open to hiring McEnany in the future.”

McEnany previously worked for Fox News and CNN before becoming White House press secretary from April 2020 until January 2021.

Misbar's investigation has found that it seems likely that Kayleigh McEnany has agreed to work with Fox News, but Fox News is not yet ready to announce it publicly.
