A picture that alleges a full moon of January 28, 2020, has been was widely spread on social media. Al Arabiya news website shared the picture claiming the full moon aligning with above Al Kaaba was according to astronomers.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar found the circulating false and fabricated. The original picture of Al Kaaba was first found in May 2020. It was part of Reuter's photo gallery that showed pictures from different parts of the world under lockdown.
The original picture is shown below. The altered version featuring a photoshopped moon was shown to match forecasts published by local Saudi news outlets. These reports had claimed that the moon would align with the Kaaba.
