Misbar's investigation discovered that Riz Ahmed scored an Academy Award nomination Monday morning for his role in Sound of Metal, becoming the first Muslim to be nominated in the Oscars Best Actor category. 

Ahmed previously broke barriers at the Emmys in 2017. He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for The Night Of and became the first Muslim actor and first Asian actor to succeed in a lead acting category.

However, Mahershala Ali previously became the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar, winning in the Best Supporting Actor category for Moonlight in 2017 and Green Book in 2019.
