The Claim

Joe Biden is responsible for the current Chick-fil-A sauce shortage.

Emerging story

The signature sauce of the fast-food chain Chick-fil-A has been limited due to the current supply not meeting demands. Sauce packets are being rationed out according to what is ordered by customers, with a maximum of three packets for an order of thirty chicken nuggets.

Naturally, Twitter users proceeded to demonstrate their outrage towards this matter with varied levels of irony and sarcasm. Many of these users, including prominent American politician Ted Cruz, blamed President Biden for the sauce shortage.

Misbar’s Analysis

If you are truly lost without your sauce, don’t worry: there is still hope. Chick-fil-A brand sauce is available for purchase from retailers like Target and Walmart. Customers can even make it themselves if they want to. The recipe is a simple mixture of honey mustard, barbecue sauce, and ranch dressing.

Although it may be a harmless shortage, Chick-fil-A sauce is not the only commodity which hasn’t been meeting demands. Chlorine, computer chips, gas, ketchup, lumber, and steel have all been under-supplied to various degrees.

However, these shortages are not the fault of President Biden, nor President Trump, nor any individual. The COVID-19 pandemic threw much of the world’s economy into chaos, with some areas of commerce recovering more quickly than others. Many nationwide and worldwide industries went through huge upheavals for over a year, and the dust has not yet settled. In the United States there is still a massive labor deficit. Shipping in general has been a nightmare for manufacturers and retailers alike.

With so many economic variables at play, it is difficult to predict when trade will be functioning normally again. Until then, we will have to make do with what we have, and appreciate what we took for granted (like Chick-fil-A sauce).
