Video Does Not Show Cat Reacting to Its Deceased Owner

Misbar’s investigation found that the owner of the cat featured in the video is still alive and well. The original version of the video was found on YouTube and did not feature the sad music or the caption about its deceased owner. According to France 24, it was filmed in Turkey by the cat’s owner, Sevilay Deryal, back in 2016 to submit for an online contest.

Deryal was interviewed by France 24 and confirmed that she is very much alive. She said that she’s upset that her video was used to mislead people. The misleading version of the video has been picked up by several media outlets over the years, including San Antonio’s KSAT and LA DÉPÊCHE in France.
