Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar found that this viral image of Bob Dylan and John Lennon is a composite of two different images placed together with photo editing software. While Dylan and Lennon did meet a few times, they were only filmed together once. The only known footage of the two musicians together is in the back of a limousine while driving around London.

A reverse image search revealed that the John Lennon portion of the viral image is from a 1966 photo of Lennon standing backstage with Paul McCartney while on tour in Germany. The Bob Dylan part of the image is from a 1965 photo of Dylan standing in a London hotel.

The original Lennon photo was taken by photographer Robert Whitaker who photographed The Beatles on a number of occasions. Photographer Tony Gale was responsible for the original Dylan image. Tony Gale photographed several prominent musicians throughout the 1960s, including Keith Richards and Frank Zappa.
