Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that Laurel Hubbard is still set to compete in the 2021 Olympics and did not suffer a testicle injury. The original story was posted on a popular satire site, The Babylon Bee, and was not factual. The Babylon Bee’s About Us page states: “The Babylon Bee is the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all its truth claims. We write satire about Christian stuff, political stuff, and everyday life.”

Hubbard is the first transgender athlete to ever compete in the Olympics after a 2015 modification to the qualifying requirements. The decision to allow her to compete against other women has led to quite a bit of controversy and protests. Television personality Piers Morgan went so far as to call it a “disaster for women’s sport.” The satirical injured testicle story is likely a response to this controversy.
