Misbar’s Analysis

One of the theories circulating about COVID-19 is that the virus originated in a lab in Wuhan, China according to the Wall Street Journal. Some believe the virus was most likely uncontained in a Wuhan laboratory where it was being worked on, and that it escaped unintentionally, possibly through wild animals being sold in an outdoor market nearby. A paper published by Harvard suggests that based on satellite imagery and search engine activity, the disease may have been present at the Wuhan lab prior to the market. The origin of the virus is an aspect of the virus that is currently being debated and investigated.

According to the website of the Wuhan Lab (also known as the Wuhan Institute of Virology), the lab falls under the umbrella and control of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the only partnership the lab has with the United States is through EcoHealth Alliance – whose mission is to help prevent pandemics. According to the GSK website, they have only two locations in China, neither of which are in Wuhan.
