COVID-19 Vaccines Didn’t Kill More Than the Virus
The video was filmed during a debate on COVID-19 vaccination mandates (Twitter).

The Claim

During the European Union summit, the former vice-president of the World Health Organization stated that COVID-19 vaccines killed more people than the virus it was meant to prevent.

Emerging story

Social media users have circulated a video claiming it shows the former World Health Organization vice president stating in the European Union summit that COVID-19 vaccines have killed more people than the virus itself.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be fake. The speaker in the video is a former vice-chair of the European Technical Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization and not a former World Health Organization vice-president.

The users have misrepresented the video of French Infectious Disease Dr. Christian Perronne, the former vice-chair, who was not speaking at an EU summit but during a public debate about vaccine mandates in Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies.

Our team found that the original video was filmed during a debate on COVID-19 vaccination mandates and was uploaded to the legislative body’s website on 12 January 2022.

Description: Doctor Christian Perronne spoke during a public debate about vaccine mandates.

A press report has mentioned that Perronne was removed as head of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department in 2020 for making remarks considered unworthy of the function he was exercising.

Additionally, the vaccine's claim that it has killed more people than the virus itself is untrue. According to Reuters, a similar claim has been debunked. There is no evidence from the World Health Organization or anywhere else that vaccines have killed more people than the disease itself.

Misbar also debunked many similar rumors. There have been reports confirming that the COVID-19 vaccines have been found to be safe for use even in children and nursing mothers.
