Emerging story

A video has gone viral on Twitter and Facebook, claiming that Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski discovered the cure for cancer 42 years ago.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be fake. There is no evidence that Stanislaw Burzynski has cured a single person.

Stanislaw Burzynski “Accused of Selling False Hope”

Our team was unable to locate the source of the circulating video; however, a Google search for the doctor's name yielded a 2013 article stating that Burzynski has not cured a single patient. Burzynski, according to USA Today, was a Houston doctor "with no board certification or formal training in oncology." He claimed to be able to cure children with inoperable brainstem tumors.

Stanislaw Burzynski announced to the public that he believes he can cure half of the 200 children diagnosed with brainstem tumors each year. He refers to his "cancer treatment" as "antineoplastons," and claims to have ordered them for over 8000 patients since 1977.

Burzynski, according to the same report, made his drugs from blood and urine collected from public parks, bars, and prisons. As a result, the drugs have a disagreeable odor. The doctor described his treatment as "safe and highly effective," and it was prescribed as an AIDS treatment. These drugs, however, have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

According to the National Cancer Institute, there is no proof that Stanislaw Burzynski has cured or even helped one patient live longer.

According to the institute, the scientist did not publish any findings from a randomized and controlled trial, which is considered the gold standard of medical evidence, in a peer-reviewed journal. Several patients, however, were convinced that Burzynski had saved their lives. Others, however, claimed that the doctor was selling false hope to desperate families.

According to the National Cancer Institute, Burzynski's drugs pose a serious risk of serious harm, including coma, swelling near the brain, and death. Meanwhile, research conducted by the National Cancer Institute found that antineoplastons may produce some of the same side effects as traditional chemotherapy.

Another article in The Guardian mentioned Stanislaw Burzynski's claim to cure cancer with a unique therapy, despite the fact that many researchers have been unable to replicate the treatment's results. According to the article, the Burzynski Clinic has received numerous FDA warnings because the evidence for antineoplaston therapy use as a cancer treatment is inconclusive.
