Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The video was taken in Chile in 2019 and has nothing to do with the protests in Iran.

Naked Women Protest in Chile

Upon conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the original video was shot in 2019 and documents a female led protest in Chile. The activists were protesting femicide and systemic violence against women.

Nudity and Protests

Nudity has been used as a tactic during protests around the world. The aim is arguably to shock people by transgressing normative borders in order to gather attention to a cause. The radical feminist group “Femen” made history by organizing multiple nude protests around the globe.

Women have also used nudity to protest Iran’s mandatory hijab laws, but from outside Iran. According to The New Yorker, “Four topless members of Femen—with “Women, Life, Freedom” painted in big black letters across their chests—raised their fists outside the Iranian Embassy in Madrid.”
