This Video Does Not Show Cameroon Fans Attacking Embolo’s House

Misbar investigated the circulated video and found the claim to be misleading.

Contrary to viral claims, this video does not show Cameroonian fans attacking Swiss striker Breel Embolo's family home.

Anger Against Eneo Power Company 

Misbar found the video first published on Facebook on November 24, 2022, by a local media outlet called "Actualités de L'EST0."

The video’s caption reads, "The headquarters of ENEO attacked by the furious populations of the shedding in this period marked by the Football World Cup in Qatar."

It was discovered that the population staged a protest against power outages during the 2022 World Cup matches before the company.

After conducting a Google search for "Eneo," we discovered that the company is an energy company based in Bertoua, Cameroon.

Moreover, Misbar researched the company's name on Facebook and found images of the building's fence and wall, which are the same as those that appeared in the viral video where Cameroonians protested.

Who Is Breel Embolo?

Breel Embolo is a professional footballer who currently plays as a forward for Switzerland.

In March 2015, Embolo made his senior international debut for Switzerland. He played in the UEFA Euro 2016, FIFA World Cup 2018, UEFA Euro 2020, and FIFA World Cup 2022.

Breel Embolo’s Winning Goal vs. Cameroon

Switzerland leads Cameroon 1-0 in their 2022 World Cup match thanks to Embolo's winning goal.

Embolo did not celebrate his first goal for Switzerland in a World Cup out of respect for all Cameroonians.

Before the game, Embolo spoke to the media about how special it would be for him and his family to play against Cameroon.

"It’s very special. It’s my hometown and my mum and my dad come from there, my family, most of them come from there, so it’s a special game for me and my family," said ahead of the match.

Breel Embolo Under Fans' Criticism

Germaine Embolo, Breel Embolo's mother, has expressed her outrage over her son's attack, particularly on social media after he scored against Cameroon in the ongoing 2022 World Cup.

According to The Sun, Embolo's mother stated that Cameroonians had no reason to be resentful because Switzerland educated her son.

"Leave my son alone. The Swiss trained him and he did the job. And you, instead of training your players, there are only shenanigans at home," Breel Embolo's mother said.
