Internet users recently shared an image that purportedly shows Cristiano Ronaldo’s support for Messi during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
In the circulating image, Ronaldo can be seen smiling in front of a TV screen where we can see Messi.
The internet users used the following caption: “Cristiano Ronaldo: ‘My son is a Messi fan. My wife is from Argentina. And I am a Messi fan too. So our whole Ronaldo family supports Argentina for the world cup 2022.’”
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating image and found it to be fake. The image has been digitally edited.
After conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team was able to find the original image, which does not feature Messi on the TV screen.
The original photo, which was featured in several news articles, can be seen below.
Misbar’s team also found the image posted by Ronaldo via his official Instagram account on October 14, 2020. The caption reads: “It's like you're there! Let's go Malta! Strength Portugal.”

The claim is being shared after Portugal was knocked out of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after it lost to Morocco 0-1.
Following Portugal’s loss, Ronaldo left in tears.
