Social media users across the MENA region recently shared a photo that purportedly shows Cristiano Ronaldo holding a sign of solidarity with Palestine.
The sign reads: "Together with the Palestinians" alongside the Palestinian flag.

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake. The circulating image has been digitally edited.
Photo of Ronaldo in Solidarity with Lorca, Not Palestine
After conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the photo dates back to 2011.
The original photo shows Ronaldo holding a sign of solidarity with the survivors of the Lorca earthquake.
The 2011 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Lorca, Spain, killed nine people and left around 250 others injured.
President Erdogan Comments on Ronaldo
The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Cristiano Ronaldo was subjected to a “political ban” at the FIFA World Cup 2022.
“They have wasted Ronaldo. Unfortunately, they have imposed a political ban on him,” President Erdogan said on Sunday while delivering a speech at a youth event in the eastern Erzurum province.
“Ronaldo is someone who stands for the Palestinian cause,” the President added.
