Social media users widely shared a video that purportedly shows Elon Musk confessing to being high on drugs.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be fake. The video is an AI generated deepfake.
Misbar’s team found that the video was originally shared via TikTok by an account that specializes in deepfakes. The account “plattepus” features a bio that says: “The AI guy For cameos/deepfake editing, DM me on Insta: plattepus.”
The TikTok also posted several other deepfakes of celebrities, as can be seen below.
Although reliable fact-checking platforms clarified the video to be a deepfake, it continues to be shared.

Musk's net worth reached its peak at $340 billion in November 2021. In late October 2022, Musk spent $44 billion to acquire Twitter. According to several reports, Musk sold a lot of his Tesla shares to help pay for the acquisition.
Following the recent diminution in Tesla shares, Musk's net worth plunged to $137 billion.
