2016 Earthquakes in Japan

Upon conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the photo was taken in 2016. 

CNN featured the image in an article reporting the 2016 earthquakes in Japan. According to the photo’s description it was taken in Mashiki, Japan.

According to media articles, a sequence of two strike-slip earthquakes occurred on April 14 and 16, 2016 in Japan and caused significant damage and disruption to the Kumamoto region.

A 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake in Japan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck the eastern part of Japan's northern island of Hokkaido on Saturday February 25. 

Authorities reported that no tsunami warning was issued. 

Tajikistan Earthquake and The Turkey-Syria Earthquakes

Prior to the Japan earthquake, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake Tajikistan on February 23 near China's far western Xinjiang region. No injuries or losses were reported following the earthquake.

This is after several deadly earthquakes and aftershocks in Turkey and Syria. The death toll in Turkey and Syria has now surpassed 50.000.
