2018 Eruption of Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung

Indonesia is frequently affected by volcanic eruptions since it is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Before starting activity in 2010, Mount Sinabung had lain dormant for 400 years. Many individuals have since died as a result of the volcano's eruptions.

On February 19, 2018, the Mount Sinabung volcano launched an ash plume more than 7 kilometers (4.5 miles) into the air, prompting Indonesia's Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation to issue the highest level of aviation advisories in the area.

Although there were no recorded injuries, the falling ash affected thousands of residents.

2023 Eruption of Indonesia’s Merapi Volcano

On March 11, 2023, Indonesia's Mount Merapi erupted, covering nearby villages in smoke and ash and pushing authorities to cease mining and tourism operations on the volcano's slopes.

According to Abdul Muhari, a spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Agency, a column of heated clouds rose 100 meters into the air. There were no reports of casualties right away.

According to an officer at one of Merapi's observation posts, volcanic ash has hit at least eight villages close to the volcano.
