According to the Mirror, the clashes followed disturbances during a march by the firefighters calling for better pay and working conditions. However, the conflict raged after firefighters accused the other rival of roughing them up and firing tear grenades.

Other sources reported that the confrontation occurred after thousands of firefighters attended the protest in the French capital, asking for an increase to a bonus for working in dangerous conditions. CGTN Europe said that the payment has stayed unchanged since 1990.

The Recent French Protests

The claim surfaced after hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to the street in France against the new pension reform by President Emmanuel Macron. Meanwhile, the French police have used tear gas and engaged in combat with violent anarchists in Paris.

The demonstrations appeared following a new law that would raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.

Following these protests, dozens of police were injured, and dozens of protesters arrested nationwide, as a day of protests descended into violence in several cities, Al Jazeera reported.
