The Claim

Israel will continue to facilitate the transfer of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza. Our war is with Hamas, not with the people of Gaza.

Emerging story

Recently, Israeli social media accounts, including that of the Israeli Embassy in the United States, circulated a video purporting to show Israel facilitating the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip. Also, the video depicts a scene that alleges to display tents and shelters permitted by Israel for the residents of the Gaza Strip.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading, as the scene is old, and there are no tents or shelter equipment sent to the Gaza Strip during the ongoing war.

Tents in Moldova Near Ukraine’s Borders

The scenes of the camps, published by Israeli accounts, originate from March 2022. They depict tents for Ukrainian refugees in the bordering state of Moldova following the outbreak of the Ukrainian-Russian War at that time.

Moldova, located between Ukraine and Romania, has become one of the major destinations for Ukrainian refugees since the onset of the Russo-Ukrainian War on February 24, 2022. Media outlets have shared images and scenes of the camps and shelter facilities established by Moldova for refugees from Ukraine.

Israel Blocks Gaza Aid

Since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, Israel has persistently closed the crossings connecting Gaza to the outside world. The Rafah crossing is partially opened to allow limited aid entry, as well as the departure of some patients, injured individuals, and holders of foreign passports. Occupation authorities impose various obstacles to delivering humanitarian aid, prompting the United Nations to issue warnings and call on Israel to facilitate the delivery of aid to the people of Gaza.

Israel rejected 22 requests to deliver aid to northern Gaza

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs revealed that Israel rejected 22 requests submitted in January of the past year to open the inspection barriers established in the 'Wadi Gaza' area to deliver humanitarian aid to the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Media outlets published scenes of hundreds of Israelis obstructing the movement of trucks loaded with goods heading to Gaza at the Kerem Shalom crossing, despite the location being declared a closed military zone by the Israeli army. Israeli protesters, affiliated with the Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, also worked to close the Kerem Shalom crossing, preventing trucks from entering Gaza.
