Emerging story

Recently, pages and accounts on the social media platform X have been circulating two photos claiming to depict staged portrayals of Palestinians in Gaza as victims. The photos are accompanied by the hashtag #PallywoodGaza.

Israeli accounts commented on the two photos, stating, "Gaza needs to recruit more professional actors," implying that Palestinians are fabricating their deaths.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading. The two photos were taken from a staged scene created to express solidarity with the victims in the Gaza Strip, not for Palestinians in Gaza faking their injuries, as claimed by Israeli accounts.

A Staged Scene in Solidarity With Gaza

The two photos date back to late October 2023, portraying a staged scene in solidarity with Gaza during the current Israeli war on Gaza. An account named 'kaysivans' on TikTok posted these photos along with other staged images on October 28, 2023, commenting, "Have you ever thought about how our brothers in Gaza live? The depicted suffering does not even represent 1%."

In another post, the account commented on the photos, stating, "What you see does not represent 1% of what happens daily," confirming that the photos are symbolic and not from the Gaza Strip. The photos themselves were captioned, indicating they are merely a representation of what is happening in Gaza.

On October 30 of last year, the same account posted a video in which the girls discuss a theatrical presentation to show the world the harsh conditions happening in the Gaza Strip.

The video is titled 'The Young Qais Dhoopar,' and he is a social media activist. Upon checking his accounts, it became apparent that he had posted the video on October 28 of the previous year. He indicated that what is shown in the video represents only one percent of the reality in Gaza.

Misbar also communicated with the owner of the original video and the circulated images, a Jordanian activist on social media named Qais Dhoopar. He confirmed that he had captured the photos as a gesture of solidarity with the people of Gaza amid the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Occupation’s Targeting of Children During the Gaza War

The Defence for Children International stated that the Israeli occupation continues to consider children a primary target in its war against the Palestinian people, whether in Gaza, the West Bank, or Jerusalem.

In a statement released on February 15, they added that since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7 of the past year, more than 12,300 children have been killed in Gaza according to the Ministry of Health. They noted that this toll is not final due to the ongoing aggression, and thousands of victims still remain under the rubble.

Moreover, the Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, warned against the military escalation in Rafah due to the displacement of more than 600 children with their families, some of whom have been displaced more than once. She called for an immediate ceasefire without obstacles.
