Russia Declares Control Over Avdiivka

The claim emerged after Russia declared its full control over the city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine on February 17. Avdiivka had been a focal point of conflict for several months. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the capture of the city as an 'important victory.'
Avdiivka is situated in the industrial Donbas region, about 15 kilometers north of Donetsk, Avdiivka is located in an area currently occupied by Russia.

Ukraine Announces Withdrawal of Forces From Avdiivka

The announcement from the Russian Ministry of Defense coincided with a declaration by the Ukrainian military chief regarding the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the city of Avdiivka.

Regarding the reasons behind the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces, General Oleksandr Borodin, spokesperson of the 3rd Assault Brigade, pointed to Russia's intensified deployment of heavy equipment and increased shelling on Ukrainian positions in recent days.

He further elaborated that before the Ukrainian withdrawal, Russia conducted tank attacks employing a 'considerable number' of armored personnel carriers, combat vehicles, and aircraft, along with drones from the Soviet era.
