Stellar Banner Scuttled off the Coast of Brazil in 2020

The giant ship Stellar Banner, owned by the South Korean company Polaris, was sunk on June 12, 2020, 100 days after it ran aground, 100 kilometers off the coast of the Brazilian Maranhão region.

The company that owned the ship commented at the time: “The operation was carried out by a group of specialists with technical knowledge, using appropriate equipment, to avoid environmental damage.

The Brazilian Navy said it removed cargo from the merchant ship, including about 145,000 tons of iron ore.

The ship ran aground on February 24, 2020, after sustaining damage to its bow, while leaving the Ponta da Madeira Marine Terminal, in São Luis, towards China.

The Houthis Announced the Targeting and Sinking of a British Ship

The claim comes after the Houthis announced that they had targeted and sunk a British ship, in addition to targeting two American ships. The group’s spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said in a statement published on his personal account on the X website, on February 19, “The naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out two qualitative military operations in which they targeted two American ships in the Gulf of Aden, the first being the Sea Champion.” And the other is Naves Fortuna.” He added that the targeting was carried out with a number of suitable naval missiles, and that they caused accurate and direct hits.

According to him, during the past 24 hours, the Houthi group carried out four operations, “the first targeted a British ship and resulted in its complete sinking, and the second operation targeted the American plane “MQ9” in the airspace of Hodeidah Governorate. He pointed out that “the last two operations targeted two American ships.”

A UK-Registered Cargo Ship Was Attacked in Bab Al-Mandab

On February 18, the British maritime security company Ambrey reported that a cargo ship, registered in the United Kingdom, reported being attacked in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

The British company explained in a statement that “the ship was heading north on a voyage from Khor Fakkan in the Emirates to Varna in Bulgaria.”

The statement continued, "The partially loaded ship briefly slowed from ten to six knots, deviated from its course, and contacted the Djibouti Navy, before returning to its previous course and speed."
