Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be fake.

Germany will not fine fans wearing fake jerseys for private use at UEFA EURO 2024.

Wearing Fake Jerseys for the English Team Is Allowed at the 2024 EURO

Contrary to the sports media outlets’ viral claim, fans wearing fake jerseys for private use at UEFA EURO 2024 have nothing to be worried about.

The police will not stop and search individuals simply for wearing a counterfeit jersey. Yvonne Schamber, a spokesperson for the German Customs Directorate, refuted the claim to DW, stating, "The customs administration has no information regarding possible fines in relation to wearing counterfeit jerseys," Schamber said.

Yet, issues may arise if counterfeit jerseys are traded or used commercially. The spokesperson stated that offering or selling counterfeit jerseys can be prosecuted by authorities such as the police.

Schamber also mentioned that individuals can import goods for personal use within travel allowance limits from non-EU countries. For travel within the EU's customs territory, there are no customs restrictions for personal items, so fans can import or carry their personal jerseys.

The Customs Directorate urges consumers to avoid purchasing products that violate intellectual property rights. "Counterfeit goods harm the economy, the labor market, and fair competition. Often, these products are of inferior quality or pose health risks."

Selling Fake Replica Shirts in the U.K. Is Illegal

Lisa Webb from the consumer organization "Which?" emphasized on BBC Breakfast, "It’s illegal to sell these items in this country so buying anything that is counterfeit means you are buying from a criminal. It is incredibly tempting to buy counterfeit products purely because of how cheap they often are but to do so you could very well be funding crime like terrorism or slavery."

Recently, a man who sold counterfeit football shirts through social media was ordered to pay back more than £118,000 or face imprisonment.

An official replica England 'dri fit' home shirt for adults, manufactured by Nike, costs £124.99 on their official website, while the kids' version is £119.99 and the 'home stadium' shirt for children is £64.99. The men's 'dri fit' away top sells for £84.99.
