Since their relationship came to an end, Shakira and Gerard Piqué have been making the news.
Shakira's newly released diss song “Out of Your League” is allegedly directed at her ex, the former footballer Gerard Piqué.
Shakira mocked Piqué and his new girlfriend in her song, singing, “You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio.”
Some Twitter accounts impersonated Casio and shared satirical tweets alleging that they show the company's reply to Shakira’s song.
Shakira’s Explosive Song About Pique’s Betrayal
With Argentine hitmaker Bizarrap, Shakira dropped the explosive song "BZRP Music Session #53."
As of November 18, the song had garnered more than 143 million views on YouTube.
Shakira sang of being betrayed by a lover who left her for a younger, less intimidating person.
"Sorry, baby, I should have thrown you out a while ago/ A she-wolf like me is not for rookies/ A she-wolf like me is not for guys like you/ I'm too good for you and that's why you're with someone just like you/ You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo/ You traded in a Rolex for a Casio," the Spanish lyrics say.
Did Casio Reply to Shakira?
Social media users circulated a photo showing two translated tweets that were allegedly shared by Casio in response to Shakira.
The first tweet reads, “Shakira, you may not be a Rolex but clearly our customers are loyal to us.”
The second tweet reads, “In defense of our Casio watches, the battery lasts longer than Pique and Shakira’s relationship.”
Misbar’s team looked into the two accounts that published the tweets and found them to be parody accounts.
As can be seen, the two accounts are newly created.
Casio Refuted Its Link to the Viral Tweets
The official account of Casio’s Educational Division stated in a tweet, "Many accounts are popping up on Twitter, Instagram, and Tiktok pretending to be official CASIO media. We remember the importance of verifying the sources of information."
The account also refuted its link to three accounts that tweeted regarding Shakira’s song.
Gerard Piqué’s Deal with Casio
Piqué recently signed with Casio as a sponsor for Kings League, his new football company.
"We have an agreement with Casio. I'm serious... we have reached an agreement with Casio for the Kings [League], yes, because we have many countdowns... this watch is for life, I'm telling you!" Said Piqué when he announced the deal with Casio.
