The Israeli Prime Minister's spokesperson for the Arab media, Ofir Gendelman, and the "IsraelArabic" account shared a video claiming it was taken on Sunday morning, November 5, in the Deir Al-Balah region of the Gaza Strip. They asserted that the video demonstrated the peaceful situation in the area, with residents buying fish from fishermen without any problems. Additionally, they emphasized that "Israel is making every effort to ensure the safety of Gaza Strip civilians."
Israel Claims Once Again That There Are Safe Zones Within Gaza
Following a more thorough analysis of the video by Misbar, it became clear that Israeli accounts had shared it misleadingly as part of the ongoing media war. In this effort, Israel aims to advance the narrative that Gaza, or specific regions inside it like Deir Al-Balah, are presently in a peaceful state and that they are genuinely ensuring the safety of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The video footage, however, dates back to scenes posted by Palestinian media outlets such as the Quds News Network and the WAFA News Agency on the morning of Saturday, November 4, not on the day claimed by the Israeli accounts.
The Israeli Military Is Shelling Areas in The Central Gaza Strip.
Several hours later, Israeli shelling targeted residences in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp within the Central Gaza Governorate, resulting in a massacre that claimed the lives of at least 45 people, the majority of whom were women and children. Dozens were also injured.
Residents of the Al-Maghazi refugee camp have asserted that the actual number of victims of the massacre in the camp is significantly higher. This is because they have been unable to clear the debris of the heavily populated homes, which were sheltering numerous residents and displaced people.
Israeli Occupation Forces Have Committed 24 Massacres in the Past Few Hours
On Sunday, Israeli occupation forces committed another massacre, leaving at least 30 victims, as the shelling targeted civilian houses near the Gaza port.
Furthermore, Israeli aircraft escalated their airstrikes across different parts of the Gaza Strip. The spokesperson for the Gaza Ministry of Health, in statements made on Sunday afternoon, stated that occupation forces carried out 24 massacres in the past 24 hours, killing about 243 Palestinians and targeting some hospitals and schools.
The Gaza Ministry of Health confirmed that the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has thus far killed 9,770 casualties, with 70% of the victims being women and children.
Israeli Bombing Continues to Target Civilians
The claims made by Israeli accounts contradicts the fact that Israel is rapidly intensifying its attacks on civilians and infrastructure. The Israeli army has expanded its aerial and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been enduring relentless airstrikes since the surprise attack by the Al-Qassam Brigades on October 7, following the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Israeli media outlets are making efforts to disclaim responsibility of their forces for the massacres committed in the Gaza Strip, primarily targeting civilians and their homes. Such actions constitute a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which unequivocally prohibits the deliberate targeting of civilians.
On Saturday, the occupation forces targeted the Al-Fakhoura School, which was sheltering displaced Gazans who had fled the bombing of their homes. The attack resulted in dozens of victims, just 24 hours before the massacre at the Usama Bin Zaid school in the Saftawi neighborhood in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
Israel’s Propaganda Strategy Aims To Portray Itself as a Protector of Civilians
In this context, Israeli accounts and pages have previously posted photos of Palestinian families on the shores of Deir Al-Balah as evidence that Israel only targets Hamas fighters and is doing everything in its power to protect the lives of Gaza's civilians.
To investigate these claims, Misbar conducted an investigation into the source of these photos and determined that they were captured on October 29, 2023. The individuals featured in the photos were Palestinians who had been deprived of fresh water and electricity, forcing them to use seawater for bathing, washing their clothes and cookware along the shores of Deir Al-Balah. This highlights how these images are being employed as part of an Israeli propaganda campaign, which aims to advance deceptive narratives regarding civilian protection.
