The granddaughter of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau, Roa Hammam Ismail Haniyeh, a medical student, was killed in an Israeli bombardment in the Gaza Strip on Friday, November 10. Following this, various misleading claims about her have surfaced on social media.

The Video Does Not Belong to Ru’a Haniyeh

Accounts on social media shared a video claiming to be of Roa Haniyeh celebrating completing the memorization of the Quran a year ago before she was martyred on Friday during the Israeli bombardment on one of the schools.

Misbar verified the video and found it to be misleading. The video dates back to July 2022 and does not depict Roa, the granddaughter of Ismail Haniyeh. Instead, it features another granddaughter, Saja Wissam Ismail.

The video captures Saja's celebration of memorizing the Quran, attended by several scholars and witnessed by Ismail Haniyeh, who received the achievement as a gift from her and her family in Gaza.

Roa Haniyeh's Did Not Die of Illness in Turkey

Some accounts shared a video alleging that Roa Haniyeh did not die in an Israeli airstrike and that she was not in Gaza in the first place. Instead, they claim she died due to an illness while she was in Turkey.

While other accounts claimed that Ismail Haniyeh does not have a granddaughter named Roa, and his entire family is in Qatar, stating that the news of her death is false.

Misbar investigated these claims and found them to be misleading. Ismail Haniyeh indeed has a granddaughter named Roa, and she was not in Turkey recently. She tragically lost her life in an Israeli airstrike targeting displaced individuals at Al-Buraq school in Gaza on Friday.

Tahir al-Nunu, the media advisor to the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, provided details about the granddaughter's death in a phone interview with the program "Al-Hekaya" presented by journalist Amr Adib on MBC Egypt channel. He confirmed that Haniyeh's granddaughter, along with 20 others from her family, lost their lives in the Al-Buraq school.

He added that members of the Haniyeh family in Gaza had displaced from the Shati refugee camp to this school, which housed a large number of civilians.

Misbar contacted a close friend of Roa Haniyeh, who confirmed that she had returned from Qatar to Gaza during the past summer to continue her studies there, and her health was good before her being killed in the Israeli shelling on Gaza.

Eyewitnesses also confirmed to Misbar that they were with Roa Haniyeh and members of her family at Al-Buraq School days before her death in the Israeli shelling that targeted the school.

Palestinian media outlets such as Safa agency also confirmed the news, stating, "Medical student Roa Hammam Ismail Haniyeh, the granddaughter of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, was martyred in an Israeli shelling on Gaza."

In this regard, activists on social media stated that Roa is the daughter of Hama Ismail Haniyeh and was studying medicine. Many public figures also offered condolences to the head of the political bureau of Hamas on the death of his granddaughter.

The Israeli Occupation Targets Hospitals and Schools in Gaza

This comes after the Israeli forces carried out brutal massacres on Friday, targeting the areas where displaced people were located around hospitals, schools, and civilian gatherings in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli occupation intensified its shelling of hospitals, particularly targeting the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, which is considered the largest health facility in the Gaza Strip. This comes amid the continuous aggression for the 36th consecutive day, which began on October 7, following the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
