Israeli activist Edy Cohen published a picture on his X account on Sunday, February 4, claiming it to be of a Palestinian gunman targeted by Israeli army forces during the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip while he was trying to target the invading Israeli forces with a missile.
Israeli Forces Executed a Palestinian Civilian as He Was Searching for Food in Gaza
Misbar investigated Edy Cohen’s claim and found it to be misleading, as the photo does not depict a Palestinian gunman killed while trying to target Israeli forces in Gaza by throwing a missile. Instead, it documents the execution of a civilian near the Palestine Stadium in Gaza City, north of the Gaza Strip.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor published the scenes, stating that its team documented a “horrific scene” depicting the execution of a Palestinian civilian who was searching for food near the Palestine Stadium in Gaza City, north of the Strip. The Monitor pointed out that the targeted citizen was shot directly in the back by an Israeli sniper.
As the Euro-Mediterranean Monitor explained, “Our team documents - daily - cases of field executions carried out by Israeli snipers stationed on rooftops in different areas in Gaza.”
In one of the scenes published by the Monitor, a Palestinian citizen is seen lying on the ground next to a bicycle he was riding. Bullet marks also appear on his back while two cats stand on his body.
The director of the Euro-Mediterranean Monitor, Rami Abdo, posted the scenes on his account on the X platform, stating, “A horrific scene documented by the Euro-Mediterranean Monitor monitors the execution of a civilian while he was searching for food near the Palestine Stadium. He fell victim to Israeli snipers.”
Israel Continues To Execute Civilians in the Gaza Strip
The circulation of the scenes came as the Israeli army continued to commit field execution crimes through direct killing and the deployment of snipers in various areas of the Gaza Strip. These snipers deliberately target unarmed civilians attempting to flee the ongoing bombing since the beginning of the aggression against the Gaza Strip on the seventh of last October.
Human rights organizations and activists are also working to document field executions carried out by Israeli occupation soldiers in the Gaza Strip and seek to include them in international investigations.
Two Brothers Were Executed in Khan Younis While Attempting To Flee
In January, human rights organizations observed and documented many field executions, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries even when individuals were carrying white flags.
Israeli forces executed the two brothers, Nahed and Ramez Barbakh, in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, on the morning of Wednesday, January 25, while they were trying to flee their neighborhood. A widely circulated picture showed the two brothers with the white flag they were raising next to them.
On December 10, Israeli occupation forces executed 41-year-old Palestinian Munir al-Najjar after invading his home in the Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip. They shot him directly while he was with his elderly mother, leaving him to bleed to death next to her.
Executing Palestinian Elderly Bashir Hijji During Displacement
Previously, Misbar investigated a photo published by Israeli accounts as part of propaganda during the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip. The accounts claimed that the photo depicted occupation army soldiers helping an elderly Palestinian during his displacement to the south of the Gaza Strip. It later appeared that the photo actually featured the elderly Palestinian Bashir Hijji (74 years old), a resident of the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in Gaza City. He was killed by the occupation army after this photo was taken while he was trying to cross to southern Gaza through the main Salah Al-Din Street. He had been subjected to field execution by occupation soldiers.
