Misbar’s investigation found that the claim turned out to be misleading. It began in 2015 when the former Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports Khairy Jamaluddin posted a picture of Jackie Chan with the Dato Medal. The medal was delivered by the King of Malaysia to support important and influential public figures, whether Malaysian or foreign. Chan received the medal for his great popularity in Malaysia, according to The Straits Times newspaper.
Jackie Chan was photographed during the event, including a photo with Islamic preacher Kazem Elias. This suggests it contributed to the misinformation of the claim.
