Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar closely followed the news about the incident and found that it is true. International newspapers reported that the participants in the virtual meeting called emergency services after they saw what happened, and described the scene as terrifying as they struggled to call 911. The chat participants noticed the man fall and disappear from the screen, but it took some time to locate his residence because they did not know where he lived.
The BBC reported that people witnessed the attack over Zoom but it was not clear what type of meeting was held.
The Guardian reported that Thomas Scully-Powers, 32, was arraigned via video and ordered to be jailed after murdering 72-year-old Dwight Powers. It also revealed that Scully-Powers told the police that he stabbed his father about 15 times and used several knives. An autopsy showed that Powers had multiple stab wounds to his back, neck, and torso, and police found multiple knives at the scene.
