Emerging story
A series of videos, texts, and pictures claim that Bill Gates is planning to use microchip implants to fight the coronavirus.
Some posts claim that Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, will launch human-implantable capsules that have “digital certificates" which show who has been tested for the coronavirus and who has been vaccinated against it.
Misbar’s Analysis
According to the BBC, the news spread about Bill Gates is false. The rumors began in March when Gates participated in an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit on COVID-19. During the session, Gates did mention the possibility of having a “digital certificate” for health records “eventually” but he didn’t say these certificates would be “microchip implants.”
Moreover, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation told Reuters that the reference to “digital certificates” relates to efforts to create an open-source digital platform aiming to expand access to safe, home-based testing.
Gates told Business Insider that he was never involved in any sort of microchip implant development or discussion, describing the claims as bizarre.
All the claims circulating about Bill Gates using microchip implants are false.
