The Claim

A picture depicts a woman who was kidnapped and beaten by George Floyd and five accomplices when they invaded her home searching for drugs and money.

Emerging story

On June 11, Twitter users tweeted a photo of a woman with a bruised face claiming she is Aracely Henriquez, a woman beaten by George Floyd.

Users also claimed that George Floyd brutally beat and kidnapped the pregnant woman and threatened to kill her baby. As a result, Floyd was sentenced to five years prison.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found that the picture in the claim belongs to an American student, Andrea Sicignano. While studying in Madrid in 2019, Sicignano was beaten and raped when she returned to her house late after attending a flamenco dance show. The woman involved in Floyd's robbery has no pictures on record.

However, according to Snopes, police records show that between 2002 and 2005, Floyd was arrested for another four crimes: having less than one gram of cocaine on him (on Oct. 29, 2002); criminal trespassing (on Jan. 3, 2003); intending to give less than one gram of cocaine to someone else (on Feb. 6, 2004); and again having less than one gram of cocaine in his possession (on Dec. 15, 2005). He was sentenced to about 30 months in jail in total for those crimes.

In 2007, authorities arrested and charged Floyd with his most serious crime: aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

There is no evidence that shows Henriquez was beaten by Floyd.
