The Claim

Melania Trump’s dress depicts drawings by victims of sexual abuse.

Emerging story

On July 5, Mike Parr posted on Facebook that by making fun of Melania’s dress, people were mocking her raising awareness for the victims of sex trafficking.

Users on social media were quick to repeat the claim.

Misbar’s Analysis

Following First Lady Melania Trump’s July 3, 2020 appearance at Mount Rushmore to celebrate Independence Day, users across social media claimed that her dress featured drawings made by children who experienced sexual abuse. The dress, designed by Alexander McQueen, has a distinct scribble print that looks like it could be children's drawings.

However, the sketches were actually done by students in a life drawing class, not by victims of sexual abuse. The dress is described on Alexander McQueen’s website as a "dancing girls asymmetric midi dress," and costs $3,840.

Express described it as having an "unusual print."

Although its print is unusual and does feature drawings, it does not feature images drawn by children who were victims of sexual abuse.
