Fake Video: TikTok Star Poses as Nurse
The Claim
A video depicts a nurse saying that people who go to Pakistan hospitals during COVID-19 will be injected with poison.
Emerging story
In mid-June 2020, social media users began sharing the video. It soon went viral across TikTok, particularly among accounts from Pakistan. Some believed it was real while others were skeptical.
Misbar’s Analysis
Our investigation found that the video actually depicts Pakistani TikTok star Rubi Ali. In the video, she is dressed as a nurse and makes allegations about Pakistan hospitals, including that doctors inject “poison to the patients in hospitals and put them into the list of people who died due to coronavirus.” Further, Ali claims that she witnessed six people being injected with poison.
Misbar conducted reverse image searches from stills in the video and found that it was posted by Ali, who is not a nurse or at all involved in the medical field. She is known for being a social media star.
The false video is particularly troublesome because of the prevalence of conspiracy theories about the coronavirus in Pakistan.
