Emerging story
Social media users on Facebook and Twitter shared a claim that the World Health Organization (WHO) has approved an Indian student’s ginger juice home remedy for COVID-19. Users claimed that an Indian student from Pondicherry University named Ramu found a home remedy cure for COVID-19, which for the first time is accepted by WHO. The home remedy has the patient drink a combination of one tablespoon of black pepper powder with two tablespoons of honey and ginger juice for 5 consecutive days. Ostensibly, this suppresses the effects of the coronavirus.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that the claim is fake. We didn’t find any home remedy to cure COVID-19 approved by WHO. The WHO’s website states that while some Western traditional home remedies may provide comfort and alleviate symptoms of mild COVID-19, there are no medicines that have been shown to prevent or cure the disease. WHO does not recommend self-medication with any medicines, including antibiotics, as a prevention or cure for COVID-19.
