The Claim

USPS Told U.S. citizens to send mail-in ballots two weeks early.

Emerging story

Social media users are claiming that the USPS told voters who plan to vote by mail to mail in their ballots at least 14 days in advance.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation shows that the claim is fake. While the USPS has recommended that voters who plan to vote by mail to mail their ballots before Election Day, the organization actually noted that voters should just request their ballots no less than 15 days in advance, and that most voters can mail them 1 week in advance of Election Day. Our investigation shows that by going to vote.org, voters can look at the deadlines for their specific state. Some states set a deadline for election day, while other states say a mail-in ballot must only be postmarked by election day.
