Emerging story
In spring and summer 2020, a claim began circulating on social media, particularly in Thailand, that black garlic can decrease the chances of developing cancer "sixfold" and is "toxic to 14 types of cancer."
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that the claim is false. Thailand’s National Cancer Institute called the claim “fake” in a recent statement. While some studies indicate that aged black garlic extract can inhibit cancer cell regrowth, these studies involve animal experimentation.
There is no evidence that it prevents human cancer growth. Even if it does, there is no way of quantifying how much it inhibits the growth of cancerous cells.
