The Claim

The Rothschilds are to blame for the explosion in Beirut.

Emerging story

In early August 2020, users on social media began posting a claim that the Rothschilds are to blame for the explosion in Beirut.

Misbar’s Analysis

The Rothschilds are a wealthy European Jewish family with a history of outlandish rumors made about them, including that they control the global economy and can control the weather.

Misbar’s investigation found that there is no evidence tying them to the explosion in Beirut. The explosion has been attributed to a warehouse containing a massive amount of ammonium nitrate

The Central Bank of Lebanon, which the posts claim is owned by the Rothschilds, is located only a few miles away from the port; however, it is an independent government agency.

Further, it was not destroyed by the explosion, meaning that even if the Rothschilds did own the bank, the claim would not make sense. The bank is offering interest-free loans for those with destroyed property.
